BRAHMI
“Education is our only weapon against the seething diseases of poverty and inequality.” -- Mahatma Gandhi
Driven by the vision of Dr. Channa Raju, Brahmi is a non-commercial, secular and humanitarian organization dedicated to primary education and the spread of literacy in rural India.
With its focus on strengthening communities in the most basic yet enduring way – through proper education – Brahmi is an ideal partner for Friends Unite. Through its collaborative efforts, the organization provides hundreds of children with the knowledge and tools they need to grow into adults who lead meaningful lives and become contributing members of their communities.
Without access to a school, teachers, and opportunities for learning, disadvantaged children from poor families, especially in non-urban and impoverished areas, fall into child labor and remain locked in a cycle of poverty the rest of their lives. Brahmi aims to transform the lives of these children through education. The organization’s goal is to build schools in impoverished areas where there are no educational opportunities.
Brahmi created such an impact with the establishment of the Anjana Vidya Kendra School, located on the outskirts of Bangalore, India. Constructed in 2000, Anjana is a full-fledged elementary school that is transforming the lives of children and the communities it serves. In addition to continued support for Anjana, Brahmi is working to develop Rural Study Centers to support educational efforts, and to promote Rural Development techniques that will help farmers and their communities effectively manage natural resources.
